Have you ever wondered what a typical classroom in a rural Kenyan school looks like?
The photos show the condition of some of the classrooms at one of the local schools we support. While four new classrooms were completed in 2024, six older classrooms remain in urgent need of renovation.
Following a recent inspection, our architect confirmed that these classrooms are no longer suitable for learning. Built more than 20 years ago, they have deteriorated over time and now present significant challenges for both pupils and teachers.
The classrooms are small and overcrowded. The roofs leak during the rainy season, there are no ceilings, making the rooms extremely hot, and poor lighting creates a difficult learning environment. Cracked floors, rusted windows, and worn-out structures further add to the problem.
The planned renovation will completely transform these classrooms. The work will include raising the walls to allow for the installation of ceilings, replacing the roofs and windows, repairing the floors, and improving ventilation and lighting. These improvements will provide children with classrooms that are safer, cooler, brighter, and far more conducive to learning.
Then came some wonderful news.
One of our long-standing supporters generously offered to fund the entire renovation of all six classrooms. We are deeply grateful for this remarkable act of generosity. Thanks to this gift, hundreds of children will soon benefit from a learning environment that is safe, welcoming, and fit for purpose.
Projects like this are an investment in children’s education, health, and future opportunities.
We thank God for this generous provision and pray that, in the future, we will be able to bring similar improvements to other local schools.
We look forward to sharing the transformation with you in the months ahead.
