Welcoming Our New Youth Worker

We’re excited to announce that Cherry Brierley Children’s Home has welcomed a new Youth Worker to the team!

Kelvin, a passionate youth leader from Nairobi Baptist Church, joins us with a heart deeply rooted in faith and a strong commitment to walking alongside young people.

Kelvin brings experience and understanding of the challenges and potential within today’s youth. His mission is to support and guide them through biblical teaching, discipleship, education, life skills, emotional support, and personal mentorship. With compassion, wisdom, and a genuine love for young people, he is dedicated to helping each child discover their God-given identity and purpose.

He wants every young person to know this life-changing truth: they are not a mistake, but a precious part of God’s good and intentional plan.

We are deeply grateful for this new chapter!

Please read Kelvin’s testimony:

My journey has been a roller coaster of ups and downs, but through it all, God’s faithfulness has shone through. Growing up in a struggling family in the Kibera slums of Nairobi, I feared my dreams of education would slip away. After completing primary school, I faced a year of uncertainty, unable to afford high school fees. Desperately, I found myself on the streets for a period of one year!

But God had other plans. A kind stranger shared the gospel with me, and before I realized it, I was taken in by his family, who cared for me for several months. After a short while, I was reunited with my father. Though reunited, financial struggles persisted. Yet God intervened again, and I received a scholarship and sponsorship to complete my high school education.

After high school, I volunteered with a Christian organisation in the Nairobi slums called Swahiba Networks. Working with teenagers in the slum areas, and through the intense training I received from this organisation, I served with them for three years. During this time, I developed a deep zeal and hunger to mentor young people. I met a group of short-term missionaries, and one of them became my sponsor, covering all my college fees for an Associate Degree in Theology. I graduated in 2022. I then served at my childhood church, Nairobi Baptist Church, as an intern in Pastoral Ministry for three years until 2024, working with the Youth and Music departments.

This year, while searching for a place to serve and unable to find one, the Lord miraculously opened a door for me to become a Youth Worker at Cherry Brierley Children’s Home in Kisumu, Kenya. My experiences have fuelled my passion to give back to my community and empower young people to reach their full potential. I am deeply grateful for God’s faithfulness and look forward to the journey ahead, trusting in His goodness and provision.

We are a UK based charity working in the Kisumu area of Kenya.
